As a yoga teacher and artist, Anne works with the reality of the body. It’s a tool that allows us to experience life as humans. It’s limitations teach us about our relationship to patience, truth, love, desire and death. It is the only medium we have to relate to other people, by seeing, hearing and touching them.
Her large oil paintings are portraits of herself and her beloved. Based on erotic imagery that was shared between her, lovers and strangers, they answer the question; how do I embody my sexuality? And how has that changed now that I am relating to sexual violence in the life of my loved ones?
Images that dealt with lust, power, playfulness and ecstasy become portraits of affection, attention, stillness and beauty - or the other way around.
Zoomed in all the way, you cannot make out the original model. Suddenly, it has become a portrait of everyone and everyone’s beloved.
Anne’s work speaks to the tenderness and essence of human bodies by capturing universal memories of intimate connections. She reimagines sexuality, or captures deeply personal stories in order to connect to the universal experiences that make us human; joy, hate, envy, loneliness and love.
